It seems as though through sticking to this negative formation Del is saying the players here are not good enough, (An opinion I currently share for about 3/4 of the team), and that our priority must be to suffocate the midfield in order to stop condeding goals (although recent performances show this is clearly not working). Unless we switch to a more attacking 442 or 433 formation in order to accomodate Pitman I can't see where any goals are going to come from now to the end of the season. This will no doubt leak goals but at least will provide better goalscoring opportunities.
